Applying by email or by post
Of the 96 roles in our first week's index, 91 take an email and 63 take a letter by post.1 Many take both. A few send you to a website or ask you to call in.

In this guide01By email
Send from an address that looks like you. Put the job title in the subject line, so the reader knows what it is before opening it.
Greet the officer the notice names, or write "Dear Sir or Madam". Then two lines in the body: the role, and that your resume is attached.
Attach a PDF, not a photo of your resume. Name it Firstname-Lastname-Resume.pdf.
02Keep the files small
03Send the right things
Send the documents the notice names, and only those. If it names none, send your resume. If it asks for a covering letter, write one for that role: here's how.
04By post
Address it exactly as the notice does, with the name of the office and the job title on the envelope. Post it well before the closing date, because letters take time.
Jamaica Post's registered mail says it takes two to three days to deliver, and offers Track and Trace.4 Keep the receipt.
05By hand
If you take it to the office, ask for the person who received it to sign or stamp a copy.
06Then
Note what you sent, and the day. Some employers never reply unless you are shortlisted. Read what to do about that.
